Edinburgh recorded highest revpar boost over summer, report reveals

Edinburgh had the highest revpar uplift over the summer, with year-on-year growth at just under 20%, which was double the national average.

The Scottish capital was boosted by the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August, which drove occupancy to 89%, according to the latest research on UK hotel sector performance from CoStar.

Liverpool came second with a 16% revpar uplift from high-profile sporting events such as the Open in July and various festivals, followed closely by the M4 Corridor and Glasgow.

Although Shropshire and Staffordshire, Swindon and Wiltshire, and Scotland Provincial had the smallest uptick in revpar over the summer months, it still recorded double digit figures "throughout all classes with midscale hotels being top performers".

The report added hoteliers still have "enough pricing power to push rates" due to high occupancy levels driven by rising business trade and tourism.

It recommended that operators focus on revenue and cost management to ensure profitability over the next 12 to 18 months.
