GMB enlists ACAS to ballot Eat food workers at Wembley plant
The GMB union has enlisted ACAS to conduct a ballot of approximately 200 shop floor food workers at the Eat plant in Wembley, London.
During the week of 2 May the ballot will establish whether the workforce at the Eat Kitchens, where workers pre-prepare ingredients and cook and package food to be delivered to Eat shops, wants the GMB to represent them in negotiations with the company.
GMB claims it has already been dealing with issues the workforce has raised such as bonus pay, holiday pay and working hours. ACAS has already conducted a membership audit to establish whether more than half the workforce are members of GMB and confirmed this is the case. GMB now wants ACAS to ballot the whole shop-floor workforce.
Richard Owen, GMB regional organiser, said: "This has been a long and at times difficult process, but we are in the final straight now, and we shall succeed, I am sure. It shows that working people can achieve so much when they stick together, and stick to their principles."
Hiten Vaidya, GMB regional organiser, said: "GMB has a long and very good track record, particularly in the food industry, of organising workers and negotiating on their behalf for them to get better pay, terms and conditions."
