Welsh restaurant Hiraeth embarks on ‘hunt for a new home'

Independent restaurant Hiraeth in Cowbridge, Wales, has announced it is seeking a new home after its landlord made the "unexpected" decision to sell the property.

Hiraeth opened under chefs Lewis Dwyer and Andy Aston in November 2022 after a successful £30,000 crowdfunding campaign.

It was added to the Michelin Guide Great Britian & Ireland in July this year, only eight months after the launch.

The pair had been hoping to build a kitchen extension and expand the kitchen garden over the course of this year.

Posting the news on Instagram, they said: "Sadly, we've been stopped in our tracks. The landlord has decided to sell the building. Likely for change of use and possible development. It's a huge kick in the teeth and very unexpected.

"After a couple of days of sulking and feeling sorry for ourselves we have now started the hunt for a new home. The business is good, we have finished year 1 strong, we love what we do & we still have a huge hunger to push on. Getting 2AA rosettes, inclusion in the Good Food & Michelin Guides has been testament to the team's tireless work. This is certainly not the end of the Hiraeth journey."

Hiraeth will hold their final service at the end of December, but revealed that in 2024 the restaurant will be in its new home.

"If you can help us out by making the last few months the busiest yet it would be a huge help for us to get our new site set up," the pair added.
