Group behind Kol and Casa do Frango launch £1m crowdfund

Restaurant group MJMK has launched a £1m fundraiser to open its second venue with chef Santiago Lastra and expand the Casa do Frango group across London.

Founded by Marco Mendes and Jake Kasumov London-based MJMK launched Michelin-starred Kol with Lastra in 2020, Lisboeta with Nuno Mendes in 2022 and has expanded Portuguese piri-piri chicken restaurant Casa do Frango to three sites across the capital.

The Crowdcube campaign will support the opening of a new Casa do Frango in Victoria this summer as well as the second opening with Lastra.

Kasumov said: "Crowdfunding through Crowdcube is a great opportunity to raise funds for growth and bring more trusted people into our valued MJMK community.

"Plans are underway to open a new restaurant with chef Santiago Lastra, meaning his creativity and talent can be enjoyed by even more guests. We're also excited to bring Casa do Frango to more neighbourhoods across London.

"Our goal is organic and sustainable growth, happening for the right reasons, and crowdfunding will enable us to do this."

Investment opportunities will start from £100 and be rewarded with tiered ‘investor perks' ranging from pastéis de nata and Boa Pinga vinho verde wine at Casa do Frango, to complimentary meals at KOL and Lisboeta, and bespoke hampers delivered to investors' doors.

For higher level investors there will be access to chef tastings and a dedicated reservations line, amongst other benefits.
