Ruth Hansom joins Princess of Shoreditch

29 July 2020 by

Chef Ruth Hansom has revealed she has joined Princess of Shoreditch restaurant and pub in east London.

The site remains closed following lockdown while it is undergoing a refurbishment of its first-floor, 30-cover restaurant.

Posting on Instagram, Hansom said: "I'm so excited to share this news with you all, after months out of the kitchen I can't wait to get behind the stoves! You'll find me @princessofshoreditch. We are working very hard creating a new menu to welcome you back. Pssst! We're also having a makeover! I'll keep you updated here – as soon as the princess wakes from her beauty sleep, you'll be the first to know! See you soon!"

The venue is part of the Noble Inns Group, which also includes Smokehouse and the Pig and Butcher, both in Islington.

Hansom left Pomona's in Notting Hill earlier this year, less than a year after joining the London restaurant. The first female Young National Chef of the Year, which she won in 2016, told The Caterer at the time that she was leaving Pomona's to start a new venture.

The chef joined Pomona's in April 2019 with the aim of producing high-end sharing menus. She moved from Luton Hoo hotel in Bedfordshire in June 2018, where she was head chef of the property's fine-dining Wernher restaurant. She had formerly been a demi chef de partie at the Michelin-starred Ritz London.

In 2018 Hansom came to public attention after winning support from restaurateur Atul Kochhar for her British restaurant concept Epoch during an appearance on BBC Two's Million Pound Menu. Hansom had appeared alongside business partner and sommelier Emily Lambert. Lambert went on to promote English wine, while Hansom pursued her operational goals.
