Solberge Hall in Yorkshire sold to luxury wedding company Wharfedale Grange

Solberge Hall hotel in Northallerton, Yorkshire, has been acquired by wedding and events company Wharfedale Grange for an undisclosed sum.

The 24-bedroom Georgian country house hotel, which is set in nine acres of woodland, last changed hands in 2015 when it was sold to hotel group Classic Lodges for £1.8m.

The hotel had fallen into administration in 2011 after several loss-making years.

Solberge Hall will now be managed by Wharfedale Grange, a family-run business that runs luxury weddings and events between Leeds and Harrogate.

The deal included the purchase of all assets, including the hotel, restaurant, facilities and grounds. All 40 members of staff will be directly transferred to new ownership.

Claire Thomas, chief executive of Wharfedale Grange, said the company planned to rename the hotel as Wharfedale Country House following a refurbishment.

She added: "We are excited to announce the successful acquisition of Solberge Hall Hotel and our intention is to substantially enhance and upgrade the 200 year-old manor house hotel over the course of the next year and put it back on the map as Wharfedale Country House, an opulent hospitality destination specialising in luxury weddings and events.

"Solberge Hall fits perfectly into our growing hospitality portfolio."

Wharfedale Grange's current portfolio includes a purpose-built wedding barn with a ceremony room and feature bar, a detached Grade II-listed 18th-century farmhouse with six bedrooms, and a floristry shop.
