Supply chain workers to vote on strike action in threat to Christmas deliveries

Supply chain workers who deliver products to brands including Burger King, Pizza Hut, KFC and Wagamama will vote on strike action today, the GMB Union has said.

Hundreds of employees working for Best Food Logistics will have the opportunity to vote after rejecting a 6% pay offer, which the union said amounted to a real-terms pay cut.

The ballot will run until 18 November, with GMB saying any strike action could disrupt deliveries to casual dining and fast food operations in the run up to winter.

Nadine Houghton, GMB national officer, said: "All these workers want is a pay deal that protects them from this crushing cost of living crisis.

"Best Food's parent companies Booker and Tesco are making plenty of money, showering shareholders with dividends. So why not use some of that cash to look after the people who keep their empire going?

"Ultimately, Best Food's stubborn attitude means some of the UK's best-known restaurants may face shortages during the busy Christmas period."
