Bodmin Jail hotel to open later this year

Cornwall's Bodmin Jail hotel is set to open later this year following a wider £40m redevelopment of the site.

The Bodmin Jail attraction is due to reopen in May with the hotel slated to open in ‘late 2020' under the management of Interstate Hotels & Resorts. The property will be of four-star standard and have 70 bedrooms, with many original features of the Grade II-listed building retained.

Bodmin Jail on the edge of Bodmin Moor was originally built during the reign of King George III in 1779 as part of the Prison Reform. The female prison was closed in 1911 and the last male prisoner left the jail in 1916, with parts of the building used by the Royal Navy until 1922. The jail was closed and officially decommissioned in 1927.
