Bournemouth's Nici hotel gains planning approval for luxury spa

The Nici hotel in Bournemouth, which opened this summer following a £20m investment, has been granted planning permission for its next stage of development, which will include a spa and rooftop restaurant.

The 73-bedroom hotel opened following an 18-month transformation of what was previously the Savoy hotel and is expected to become the first five-star property to operate in the south coast town for some years.

The next stage of development will deliver a new luxury spa and fitness facilities, additional hotel bedrooms, a rooftop restaurant and a garden café. The additional facilities are in addition to a new 30m swimming pool, which received separate planning permission in July 2022.

Eldon James, managing director at Nici Hotels said: "We are delighted that our proposals have been approved and are looking forward to bringing our five-star vision to life.

"Our aim is to create a unique, luxury development which drives further tourism success for Bournemouth and brings multiple benefits to our local community. We believe the Nici has the potential to be a catalyst for wider regeneration in Bournemouth, encouraging further investment to help the town grow as a top tourist destination in the UK."

Works are planned to start in October 2022, with the majority complete by summer 2023.
