Chelsea Finch to open cafe and wine bar in the City of London

Chelsea Finch, the entrepreneur behind the District cafe group in London, is to open a wine bar and cafe in the City of London on 1 December.

Named Where's Fred's, it will occupy the ground floor of a restored townhouse at 7 Frederick's Place and serve coffee, brunch, and a Mediterranean-inspired evening menu.

Finch, who also runs three District cafes in Parsons Green, Mayfair and Nine Elms, has collaborated with Emma Underwood, general manager at the Pem, to create a low-intervention wine list.

It will focus on mostly European producers such as Brand Brothers in Bockenheim, Germany, and will run to around 20 bins with many available by the glass, and two on tap, priced from £27 to £120 for a bottle and £7 to £15 by the glass.

Brunch dishes will include pan con tomate with fried eggs; and Fred's loaded banana bread; while the evening menu will feature bacon, butter and Worcestershire sauce-topped Oysters Kilpatrick; burrata with roasted squash and pesto; platters of charcuterie and cheeseboards.

Finch said: "There's nowhere quite like Where's Fred's in the City of London, and I hope that it will quickly become part of the fabric of the community for workers, residents and visitors alike. Everyone's welcome at Where's Fred's!"
