D&D London to open New York restaurant

Restaurant group D&D London is to open a new restaurant in New York's Hudson Yards development, alongside ventures from Costas Spiliadis and Thomas Keller.

The yet-to-be-named brasserie will open in the 28-acre neighbourhood on the West Side in autumn 2018.

It will occupy 11,000 sq ft on the fourth floor of the one million sq ft Shops & Restaurants building and will serve a menu of modern brasserie cuisine and feature a distinctly New York ambience with views of Thomas Heatherwick's Vessel, the Public Square and Gardens and the Hudson river.

There will be dozens of restaurants in total, including operations from chef José Andrés and restaurateur and president and CEO of developer Related Urban , Kenneth A Himmel.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be opening a restaurant in what is widely considered to be the most exciting and ambitious development in New York. It has long been a desire of ours to bring a new flagship restaurant to this amazing city. We spent a lot of time considering where to open and believe that the dynamism and creativity of Hudson Yards makes it the ideal location for us," said chairman and CEO of D&D, Des Gunewardena.

"In my view, there is no other city besides London that can match the energy, vibrancy and diversity of the New York dining scene, and we are all incredibly excited to launch a new concept in what we think will become the new heart of Manhattan."

"Des and D&D have created some of the most exciting and inventive dining concepts in the UK. We are very excited for D&D London to bring their unique perspective to Hudson Yards, the new epicenter of New York dining," said Kenneth A Himmel, president and chief executive officer of Related Urban, who is co-curating the dining experiences at Hudson Yards.

"Their new concept will be the perfect addition to Manhattan's newest neighbourhood, and offer an exciting new experience for Hudson Yard's residents, employees and visitors alike."

Founded by Des Gunewardena and David Loewi in 2006, following a buyout of Conran Restaurants, D&D London operates London restaurants including Quaglino's, Le Pont de la Tour, Bluebird and Coq d'Argent.
