Duncan Bannatyne puts Charlton House hotel on the market for £4m

The Bannatyne Group, owned by former Dragon's Den star Duncan Bannatyne, has put the Charlton House Hotel & Spa in Somerset up for sale with a guide price of £4m.

The converted 17th-century country house in Shepton Mallet is set in four acres of landscaped gardens and grounds. It has 28 bedrooms, an AA-rosette restaurant and bar, an orangery and 60 car parking spaces. The group acquired the freehold Grade II-listed property in 2010 out of administration.

The property also has a Moroccan-themed spa with five treatment rooms, a hydro pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, as well as a gym and an outdoor tennis court.

Matthew Smith, partner in the Knight Franks hotel team, which has been appointed to market the hotel, said: "We are thrilled to act on behalf of the Bannatyne Group to source a new owner for Charlton House Hotel & Spa. This multi-faceted hotel business will appeal to an array of buyer profiles to include existing hoteliers looking to expand their portfolios along with domestic and overseas investors keen to capitalise on the strong demand for private leisure business across the South West of England. Since reopening in May the business has traded ahead of forecast achieving increased occupancy and average daily rate with strong forward bookings."
