Gladwin brothers to open the Fat Badger in Richmond

The Gladwin brothers are opening a fifth London restaurant called the Fat Badger in Richmond next month.

Like the brothers' other venues, the new restaurant will have a strong focus on sustainability and be styled like a traditional British countryside pub. Richard, Oliver and Gregory Gladwin's portfolio also includes the Shed in Notting Hill, Rabbit in Chelsea, Nutbourne in Battersea and Sussex in Soho.

Ingredients will be foraged in West Sussex, sourced from the Gladwins' family farm, or from local, ethical suppliers, with a "what grows together, goes together" ethos from chef-patron Oliver Gladwin, who has written the menu.

The menu will merge classic British dishes with modern cooking techniques, with fillets of meat and fish cooked on the grill accompanied by vegetables and foraged herbs. British sharing specials will be on the blackboards each evening, such as whole steamed fish, a signature ‘stargazy' pie, and prime cuts of Sussex Simmental beef.

The bar will serve fresh AAA Maldon oysters, local charcuterie, house pickles, homemade crackers and British cheeses, as well as small dishes, such as Portland crab crumpets or Welsh rarebit. Sunday roasts will also be served with all the trimmings.

The wine list will feature the Gladwin family's range of wines from their Nutbourne vineyard in West Sussex. Richard Gladwin has also selected a range of wines from other like-minded producers from regions worldwide.

Richard said: "We are delighted to be moving into another London neighbourhood, this time in an area that my family and I call home. The pandemic has further proved that local is sustainable and this is how we intend to foster growth in our business and the communities surrounding it. We look forward to a long, successful relationship with Richmond and its locals – creating a hub for people to enjoy the taste of modern Britain with great food, and fine wine in the company of friends and family."
