Kampus Higher Ground restaurant on stilts

A restaurant on stilts is opening its doors today in Kampus, Manchester's new garden neighbourhood area.

Bungalow is an ex-security cabin that has been converted into an entertainment venue and lies opposite Canal Street.

Moving into the building is Higher Ground a joint venture between chef Joseph Otway, previously of Where the Light Gets In in Stockport and Richard Cossins, former restaurant manager of Simon Rogan's Michelin-starred Fera at Claridges..

It will showcase ingredients from the north west and offer a daily changing menu featuring dishes such as an oxtail madras pastry. Beer on tap will be from a local Manchester brewery.

Otway said: "We were drawn to the Bungalow from the very beginning, and as we learnt more about Kampus and the focus on building a community, we knew it was the perfect fit for us. It's a great opportunity to move into a casual space and share what excites us. We want to offer something that's approachable and easy for everyone to enjoy, whilst also supporting growers and producers we are passionate about."

Higher Grounds opens for an initial four-month residency but Otway and Cossins hope to move it to a permanent home.
