Thai Leisure Group closes Manchester Chaophraya with plans for new concept

Thai Leisure Group has closed its Manchester Chaophraya restaurant but plans to open a new concept in the city's Trafford Centre later this year.

Thaikhun Buffet is set to open in the spring as an expansion of the group's 10 Thaikhun Thai street food sites, including in nearby Spinningfields, joining the company's other brands ChaoBaby, which has sites in Sheffield and Manchester, and Yee Rah in Liverpool. There are still seven remaining Chaophraya restaurants.

Managing director Ian Leigh said: "After 12 years in the city we have unfortunately made the difficult decision to close Chaophraya Manchester. We would like to thank all of our guests in the city and our suppliers over this time for their continued support.

"We have been able to relocate many of our staff across our group of restaurants and where this has not possible redundancy arrangements have been provided.

"We are still continuing to trade in all of our other restaurants up and down the country with our sister restaurant Thaikhun being just down the road in Spinningfields."
