McDonald's unveils opening plan including temperature checks, screens and a limited menu

McDonald's has revealed the measures it will put in place to open 15 restaurants for delivery on 13 May, including staff temperature checks, Perspex screens and a limited menu.

The fast food giant has said it has worked with the governments, trade bodies, employees and guests to "give us all confidence in the measures we are introducing", with successful tests carried out behind closed doors this week. All restaurants will be deep cleaned prior to reopening, with employees given updated training on cleanliness and sanitation and the frequency of cleaning protocols increased.

Perspex screens and floor markings will also be introduced and staff will be provided with non-medical grade face masks. Before coming to work, staff will need to confirm they are fit and able and temperatures will be taken on arrival for every shift.

Restaurants will operate with "much smaller teams", preparing a limited menu to allow social distancing in kitchens. McDonald's has also worked with delivery partners Just Eat and Uber Eats to introduce further measures to support delivery drivers.

Paul Pomroy, McDonald's chief executive UK and Ireland, said: "When we return, it will be different as we all adjust to this new normal. I want to apologise in advance if our first wave of reopened restaurants does not serve your area. Rest assured, we are working hard to reopen more restaurants, but I am adamant this must be at the right pace with the wellbeing of our employees, suppliers and customers front of mind. Thank you for your patience.

"Slowly, but safely we will return to towns and cities across the UK and Ireland and thank you for your continued support as we work through this crisis."
