Russell Bateman leaves Gordon Ramsay's Pétrus

Russell Bateman has announced his departure from Gordon Ramsay's Pétrus restaurant in Knightsbridge, London.

Bateman, who joined Pétrus as head chef in July 2018, cooked his last service at the Michelin-starred restaurant on Sunday 2 February.

He told The Caterer that he had left on good terms with Gordon Ramsay, Gordon Ramsay Holdings and all of the senior management team.

Bateman worked an extended notice period, negotiated with Pétrus, and is now actively looking for his next opportunity, which is likely to be London based.

He said: "It just felt like the right time to go. I'm very proud of everything the team at Pétrus achieved but I'd now like to achieve the same standards that we delivered every day at Pétrus in my own right, in my own name.

"This is a very personal decision. One that takes mine and my family's future into consideration. I'm super proud of my time at Pétrus and very grateful for the opportunity."

Bateman won the National Chef of the Year competition in 2014 while head chef of Colette's at the Grove hotel in Watford. He joined Pétrus in 2018 following the departure of Larry Jayasekara.
