Lansdown Grove hotel brought to market for £8m

The Lansdown Grove hotel in Bath, formerly operated by Shearings owner Specialist Leisure Group before it fell into administration, has been brought to market for offers of more than £8m.

The freehold of the Grade II-listed hotel is being offered with vacant possession, free from any branding or management agreement.

Specialist Leisure Group, previously known as Shearings Leisure Group, partnered with Country Living magazine to refurbish and relaunch the Lansdown as well as the St George in Harrogate as Country Living hotels. It was believed to be the first time in the UK a hotel group has been magazine-branded, following the signing of a licensing agreement with Hearst, the owner of Country Living.

Both hotels underwent multimillion-pound refurbishments ahead of relaunching in 2018 and the Lansdown was also expanded from 55 to 61 bedrooms. However, Specialist Leisure Group fell into administration last month after failing to secure a rescue deal.

James Greenslade, associate director in the hotels team at Savills in Exeter, which is jointly marketing the property with Carter Jonas, said: "Lansdown hotel is excellently positioned to offer the over 700,000 tourists that visit the city each year with high quality and modern accommodation close to some landmark tourist locations. We expect there to be significant interest in the asset."
