Fire rips through pub owned by England cricketers

A fire ripped through a pub co-owned by Nottinghamshire and England cricketers Stuart Broad and Harry Gurney early on Saturday morning.

Eight crews tackled the flames at the Tap & Run in Upper Broughton with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue saying the cause of the blaze was believed to be accidental.

Pictures of the building show substantial fire damage including to the roof of the building.

Broad tweeted: "I couldn't believe the news this morning. Not sure I still can. Our wonderful pub caught fire in the early hours. Thankfully no one was hurt, the Nottinghamshire Fire Service were incredible in their efforts and thank you to the villagers for the wonderful support."

He later added: "Thinking of our awesome staff today, every single person there has created a special pub for the community. It hurts right now but we will come out the other side."

The pub's Twitter account said it would not be able to honour any bookings for the foreseeable future. Broad opened the pub with Gurney in 2018. In 2021 it won Pub of the Year in Leicestershire (the venue sits on the Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire border).
