Pub and 'birthplace of Liverpool FC' on the market for £3.75m

A matchday pub famed as the birthplace of both Everton and Liverpool Football Clubs has been put on the market for £3.75m.

The Sandon Complex has served the local community since the 1870s and was originally owned by Liverpool FC founder John Houlding.

It is located close to the stadium at Anfield and features five function rooms, multiple bars, large outdoor screens and has a capacity for over 4,500 people.

The venue was bought by businesswoman Kate Stewart in 2017 and has since been refurbished, becoming the first official off-site partner of Liverpool FC.

A Sandon hotel, which features 123 beds across 20 rooms, opened in 2019 and planning permission has been secured for a further six rooms.

Stewart is retiring from the hospitality industry after more than 20 years to spend more time with her young children.

Stewart said: "The Sandon is an institution for football fans, and I have loved welcoming Liverpool FC fans from all over the world… I will miss the Sandon terribly, but I feel this is the right time to close this chapter and spend more time with my family whilst they are still so young."

Tom O'Malley, associate director in Christie & Co's hospitality team, who is handling the sale, said: "With its historical associations and contracts with Liverpool FC, along with its proximity to Anfield Stadium, this multi-faceted business is an exciting and rare opportunity.

"We are currently seeing increased demand for wet-led public houses, so we expect the sale to attract attention from a wide variety of buyers."
