Bocuse d'Or contest postponed

The International and Continental Organizations Committees of Bocuse d'Or and Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie and their presidents have announced postponements to this year's global chef championships.

Bocuse d'Or Europe in Tallinn, Estonia has been postponed until 3-4 September 2020; Bocuse d'Or Americas and Copa Maya in Lima, Peru are postponed from May until 25-27 September; and Bocuse d'Or Asia-Pacific is confirmed for 1-2 July in Guangzhou, China.

Ian Musgrave, sous chef at Ritz London, pictured with commis chef Adam Beaumont, will represent Team UK having won the UK heat in November 2019 and will compete in the European heats.

The renowned gastronomic contest, named after French chef Paul Bocuse, offers talented cooks exposure on the international gastronomy scene. A statement released by GL events Exhibitions Operations and its Gastronomic team said that their main concern remains the well-being of their staff, participants and partners: "We care and we always will show benevolence and complete thoughtfulness towards all the members of our prestigious competitions in this tense and international context."

The announcement was made in response to the coronavirus situation as it reaches a critical stage forcing most of the countries into closures and heavy restrictions plans, some of them closing their boundaries.

In 2005, in an effort to facilitate the increasing number of countries wishing to enter the contest, the Bocuse d'Or introduced pre-selection events by creating first the national rounds then the continental qualifying events, which include the Bocuse d'Or Europe, Bocuse d'Or Americas, Bocuse d'Or Asia-Pacific and Bocuse d'Or Africa.
